Sony PlayStation Conference

News roundup: Sony PlayStation Conference summary

The Tokyo Games Show kicks off later this week, but Sony have already hosted their PlayStation Conference and we’ve got all the biggest announcements right here:

Left Alive

A  “brand-new survival action shooter” from Square Enix, the title boasts character designs by Yoji Shinkawa (Metal Gear Solid). Takayuki Yanase (Metal Gear Solid, Xenoblade Chronicles X) is also on-board, so expectations of a visual smorgasbord are already high. The game is scheduled for 2018.

Monster Hunter: World

Capcom confirmed that Monster Hunter: World will be available globally on January 26 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One. The new trailer shows off various new monsters as well as Astera, the base of operations for the Research Commission. PlayStation pre-order bonuses include the Origin Set Armour and the Fair Wind Charm talisman, which offers improved starting stat boosts. Digital pre-orders will also earn a custom PS4 theme and there’s a Monster Hunter-themed PS4 Pro coming as well.

Shadow Of The Colossus

There’s another wonderfully atmospheric trailer for the Shadow Of The Colossus remake. Re-built from the ground up with new visuals and controls, the game arrives in 2018 and will once again send gamers through the emotional turmoil of slaying a series of behemoth beasts.

Final Fantasy IX

Arguably the most underrated Final Fantasy from the orignal PlayStation series, Final Fantasy IX is now available on the PlayStation Store for £16.99. For that price you’ll get the game, a custom theme and eight character avatars. The port features, ‘high-definition movies and character models, trophy support, auto-save functionality, and optional game boosters including high-speed mode and no encounter mode.’ The world of Gaia awaits – and it’s well worth a (re)visit.

Zone Of The Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS

PlayStation 2 title Zone Of The Enders: The 2nd Runner is being treated to yet another remaster (and a weird new title). The game will be largely based on the existing PlayStation 3 remaster but is adding in improved textures and sound, VR support and 4K resolution.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT

Not a game reveal in itself, but Dissidia Final Fantasy NT did reveal that Final Fantasy XV‘s protagonist Noctis would be joining the game, which sees characters from the long history of the series fighting alongside one another. The trailer shows some of the team battles against iconic summons from the Final Fantasy franchise. The game will launch for PS4 on 30th January 2018.

Dragon’s Crown Pro

Vanillaware‘s 2D side scrolling action-role player was confirmed to launch for the PS4.  This release will support cross-play with the PS3 and PS Vita (yes, really) versions, so it’s not going to be hugely different, save for some graphical improvements. It should be out early next year.
