Tencent rumoured to have invested in PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds

The biggest games publisher in the world TenCent just eyed up PlayerUnkown’s Battlegrounds studio Bluehole. And once more we must cover who the hell TenCent are.

At this point you maybe wondering whether I work for TenCent given I have written about them on this site not once, not twice, but thrice. Well get ready for article four! The world’s biggest games publisher is stretching it’s reach even further by eyeing up BlueHole; developer of PlayerUknown’s Battlegrounds.

Jiemian News reported via Yicai Global that Tencent have invested an undisclosed amount in Bluehole after an acquisition bid was turned down. Someone at TenCent is clearly reading the news as just last week PlayerUknown’s Battlegrounds became the most active non-Valve game on Steam.

So here we go again; why should gamers care? TenCent are the world’s biggest game publisher. When they make a play it’s worth taking note of. Just last week Reuter’s reported that TenCent are on track to increase revenue by a whopping 50% this quarter.

TenCent continue to make big plays in games and slowly are building an impressive roster of studios. Who knows what direction they may go in next? But one thing is for sure; whatever plays TenCent are making many will follow their example.
