Wonderful 101 Switch release teased by PlatinumGames

PlatinumGames just love a tease and after trolling the internet with a possible Bayonetta 1 & 2 re-release, now appear to be hinting at a Wonderful 101 Switch release.

The image below, posted by PlatinumGames, shows the team playing a blurred game whilst wearing jackets similar to those of the characters in The Wonderful 101.

The Wonderful 101 was originally released for the Wii U in August 2013. At the time it was one of the console’s first big releases, although it wasn’t exactly a commercial success. Despite some niggly issues with touchscreen responsiveness, the game was warmly received. Indeed, we picked The Wonderful 101 as one of our favourites from the console during the Wii U farewell podcast – and now it looks like it could be making a comeback.

This follows another recent tease from PlatinumGames as they posted a Bayonetta image that seems to be a nod to the Switch, featuring images from Bayonetta 1 & 2 on a red and blue background – similar to the colour of the original Joy Cons released alongside the console a few months ago.

Bayonetta has already been ported once this year, having been released on PC in April. Indeed, the original game has spent the best part of the last decade living on through ports, having made the jump onto the Wii U in 2014 from its original 2009 release on Xbox 360 and PS3.

We know that PlatinumGames is definitely working on at least one title for the Switch. The company has a close (although not exclusive) relationship with Nintendo and alongside original titles like The Wonderful 101, they have also developed games based on existing Nintendo franchises, like Star Fox Zero on the Wii U.

Of course, there’s nothing confirmed either way about a Bayonetta or The Wonderful 101 Switch re-release. And there is every chance that PlatinumGames are just trolling the internet, because why not?
