Yesterday we let you know that Blizzard was planning on releasing a new hero soon and it likely wasn’t the highly anticipated Doomfist. Since this the crafty guys on the Overwatch team have dropped an interesting blog post… Enter potential new Overwatch hero: Efi Oladele.
Occasionally Blizzard put out blog posts which are set in the “real” Overwatch universe, and this is one of them. The post is here and definitely worth giving a quick read. She is a child-genius, an inventor of sorts who appears to be 11 or 12 years old. This is a sore point for a lot of people who believe that it is unethical or immoral to kill/be killed with a child of this age. Fair enough.
Reading through the article though I, personally, get the feeling that we are going to be getting one of her creations as opposed to her being the playable character. There are a number of things in the article that point me towards this, for example:
I want to create things that make our lives better. And someday, my dream is to build something that can keep us safe, like the new OR15s! I think that would be great.
I mean, come on? It’s unlikely they’re going to have a child on the battlefield (Mercy would never allow that for a start) and this sets her up perfectly to create some tank-like robot which she controls from a safe distance.
The story goes that she has been awarded a grant, and while she hints she knows what she wants to use it for, she tells the ‘interviewer’ that it is a secret but that her parents are taking her on a trip of some sort… Maybe she’s off to see Winston? I doubt Talon is the organisation you take your child to go and visit.
In classic Blizzard style this will either go on forever, or we will know more in a matter of days (if that) watch this space!
