Pokémon Go gen 2 is arriving later this week, with an update adding more than 80 new Pokémon to the game. Niantic has confirmed today that the long-awaited Pokémon Go gen 2 update will be arriving later this week, adding “more than 80 Pokémon originally discovered in the Johto region in the Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games.”
The addition of creatures from subsequent games has been expected after the code for new Pokémon was discovered during an update late last year. The game has already introduced several gen 2 characters such as Togepi and Pichu, who can be hatched from eggs, but the new update will see the likes of Chikorita, Cyndaquil and Totodile appearing in the wild.
Alongside new Pokémon, the update will also add new evolutions, new berries, new avatars and new battle behaviours.
The full announcement is available here – the content will start rolling out later this week and no doubt all eyes will be on whether it provides a spike in popularity for Pokémon Go. The app has been downloaded more than 500 million times since its release last year, but has seen its usage decline over the last few months despite seasonal updates providing bonuses.
